Stepping out of 12th grade feels like standing at the most challenging stage of life— one can be nervous yet excited for life's new chapters. Student life is more of fun and good times rather than career pressure but at this stage, you have to think about the direction and path of your career and that is not easy. . But it doesn’t have to be scary. With good guidance, research and clarity you can choose your career option.
Why Is It So Hard to Choose?
Let’s understand some basic reason that makes this life stage challenging :
Confusion: Nowadays, there are too many options present in the market, which makes students very confused about what option to opt for their best career startup.
Societal and Parental stress: Every parent wants their child should be the best in their society and around, which creates pressure on students and somehow their self-desires remain hidden due to this pressure.
Scared of wrong decision: Most students overthink about, what if they choose something that they will regret later. This makes students anxious and they can not focus on making a correct decision.
So, How Do You Follow the Right Direction?
Here I listed out some pointers that may help you in this challenging time:
1. Self-reflection
Your interest matters the most when choosing your career. Ask yourself, what subjects you like, what is your field of interest, and what are the things that you can do without getting tired of. The answers will let you know your likes and dislikes and that can help you to know your choice of subject which you can choose and develop skills in the same field so that you can change your passion into a profession.
2. Explore different fields
Don’t follow the sheep path, explore options so that you can find out what works best for you. There are some common popular fields in every generation that will direct you towards what’s trending in the market but that doesn't mean that your potential exists in the same field. What skills you have within yourself can make you popular, if you work hard for that. That can be anything and if you dig into this, you will find options that will help you develop your skills in the field of your passion.
3. Talk to People
Speak to experts and professionals working in the field you're thinking about. Ask seniors, teachers, or counsellors. Real-world experiences can give you insights and help you make better choices than you think in your mind.
4. Don’t Be Afraid to Change Paths
It’s okay to move out of the league. Your first choice after your 12th board exams doesn’t have to define your entire future. Choosing your field or graduation subject is not like you have strictly enrolled on something that you have to follow for a lifetime. Affcorse you can switch anytime when you feel like it. You just need to be very sure about what you are going to choose further, keep your mind flexible to accepting challenges and go with the flow of life.
All the best!
